Ballad Health offers osteopathic, orthopedic and pharmacy residencies through several of our award-winning hospitals and service lines.

AEGD Dental Residency
Ballad’s AEGD dental residency program is a one-year program with a two-year option located in Washington County Virginia, sponsored by Johnston Memorial Hospital.
The program provides general dentists advanced clinical and didactic training in a multidisciplinary environment that enhances and refines skills and knowledge obtained in dental school while providing practical experiences serving underserved communities.
Family medicine residencies
For excellent medical training in a rural setting, Ballad Health features family medicine residencies at community hospitals* in Southwest Virginia:
- Family medicine program in Abingdon – Johnston Memorial Hospital
- Family medicine program in Big Stone Gap and Norton – Lonesome Pine Hospital
Internal medicine residencies
Ballad Health also offers internal medicine residencies at two community hospitals in Southwest Virginia:
- Internal medicine program in Abingdon – Johnston Memorial Hospital
- Internal medicine program in Norton – Norton Community Hospital
*To augment this training – for both the family and internal medicine residency programs – our community hospitals work in conjunction with Ballad Health’s award-winning tertiary medical centers to provide well-rounded residency experiences.
Pharmacy residencies
Ballad offers the following pharmacy residencies in Tennessee:
- Pharmacy residency in Bristol – Bristol Regional Medical Center
- Pharmacy residency in Johnson City – Johnson City Medical Center
- Pharmacy residency in Kingsport – Holston Valley Medical Center
