Mhroos Peters, MD, named chief medical officer of Johnston Memorial Hospital
Mhroos Peters, MD, has been selected to serve as Johnston Memorial Hospital’s new chief medical officer, bringing more than 10 years of experience to the Johnston Memorial leadership team as a well-regarded physician leader and clinician.
As chief medical officer at Johnston Memorial, Dr. Peters will work closely with Dr. Chad Couch, Ballad Health’s Northeast Market vice president and chief medical officer, to strengthen relationships with various medical staff departments and residents, collaborating to ensure the organization continues to deliver on its mission.
“We know his passion for high-quality patient care, combined with his deep reservoir of hospital operations experience, is an excellent fit for Johnston Memorial as we look to build on the strong clinical foundation we already have in place,” said John Jeter, chief executive officer of Johnston Memorial.
Dr. Peters is triple American Board-certified in Family Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine and Obesity Medicine. He is a Fellow of American Academy of Family Physicians and a Senior Fellow of the Society of Hospital Medicine.
“Dr. Peters’ experience and leadership emphasis in graduate medical education, hospital medicine and post-acute care is an added asset to Johnston Memorial’s current Accredited Internal Medicine and Family Medicine Residency Programs and hospital services,” Dr. Couch said. “Dr. Peters is a great addition to the leadership team at Johnston Memorial, and I look forward to working with him as we advance Ballad Health’s mission and vision in the Northeast Market.”
“I am excited about and believe in the bold vision and mission of Ballad Health and Johnston Memorial,” said Dr. Peters. “I believe wholeheartedly that providing the best possible care to our community is how we honor those we are privileged to serve here in Abingdon, and that means effective, efficient, safe and compassionate service to our patients. I am passionate about addressing the ‘whole-person,’ not just the disease or medical problem at hand, and I am committed to fostering a culture of excellence among the medical staff.”
Dr. Peters earned his medical degree from Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in Cairo, Egypt, and went on to complete a Family Medicine Residency Program at The Christ Hospital/University of Cincinnati, where he served as chief resident. He later received his master’s in business administration with distinction from Adelphi University, Robert B. Willumstad School of Business.
Dr. Peters recently obtained the prestigious Certified Physician Executive Designation from the American Association for Physician Leadership, and he is certified in Healthcare Quality Management from the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians.
Dr. Peters resides in Abingdon, Virginia, with his wife and four boys, ages 9, 11, 13 and 15.
