Hurricane Helene updates

Ballad Health has activated its Corporate Emergency Operations Center (CEOC) due to issues caused by severe weather. Flooding, high winds and power outages are creating problems throughout the Appalachian Highlands.

Phone system, network resumes operation

Greeneville Community Hospital to suspend services

Due to water supply issues in the city of Greeneville, the hospital has suspended all operations except for its emergency room, which will remain open for local, emergent and obstetric (OB) patients.

Greeneville Community Hospital has transferred inpatients to Holston Valley Medical Center.

  • Emergency obstetric (OB) services are still being provided for patients who are in active labor or have an emergent situation.
  • Patients who have a scheduled induction at GCH should call their physician to receive care at another hospital.
  • Patients experiencing an emergency may still come to the hospital’s emergency department

Ballad Health Medical Associates services updates in Greene County

  • Ballad Health Medical Associates Urgent Care in Greeneville will be open Monday, Sept. 30., 8 AM – 7:30 PM.
  • Several Greeneville Ballad Health Medical Associates clinics will be closed Monday, Sept 30 due to utility outages in Greeneville.
  • 24/7 Virtual Urgent Care and Telehealth options are available online.
  • Teams are installing portable restrooms outside of Ballad Health Medical Associates offices in Greene County due to utility outages.

Unicoi County Hospital closed

Unicoi County Hospital in Erwin has suspended operations and has evacuated patients. All patients and team members were successfully rescued from Unicoi County Hospital on Friday, Sept. 27. Affected patients have been transferred to Johnson City Medical Center, and their families have been updated. The hospital remains closed until further notice. Ballad Health will assess the damage once flood water recedes and provide updates on the status of the facility. We will ensure all current and future patients can access care at neighboring facilities.

Sycamore Shoals Hospital inpatient services remain suspended

Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton safely evacuated patients and has suspending operations, with the exception of the Emergency Room, which will remain open for local, incoming patients. Current inpatients were transferred to other hospitals throughout Ballad Health. People who need care in the area should go to the next closest hospital or call 911.

Elective surgeries resumed where possible

Elective procedures will resume on Monday, Sept. 30 at facilities that are able to perform them. Patients will be contacted in the event their procedure needs to be rescheduled.

Retail Pharmacy

  • Patients who need access to medications displaced in the weather emergency should first try to contact their practitioner’s office.
  • If their practitioner is unavailable, the Johnson City Medical Center retail pharmacy location is open today and can be reached at (423) 431‑2140.

Except for Greene and Unicoi Counties, all Ballad Health Medical Associates offices will be open beginning Monday, Sept. 30.
